Stain & Odor Remover — Small Batch

CLEANING

Breaks down organic residue (urine, vomit, bile) that soap and water alone won't touch — the same residue that glows under a black light.

Ingredients

½ cup hydrogen peroxide (3%)
¾ tsp dish soap
¾ tsp baking soda

Directions

Mix all three fresh, right before use — don't premix and store, it loses fizz/potency and can pressurize a sealed container.
Test on a hidden spot first if the fabric or carpet is dyed — peroxide can lighten color.
Saturate the stain fully with the mixture.
Let it sit 10–15 minutes (longer for old/set-in stains).
Blot — don't scrub — with a clean cloth.
Air dry. Skip the hair dryer/heat — heat can set any leftover residue.

Added 09/06/26. If commercial enzymatic cleaner is on hand, it will still outperform this DIY version on old/set-in stains — this is the from-the-pantry option.

Spray bottle? Don't seal the full 3-ingredient mix in a closed spray bottle — the peroxide + baking soda reaction keeps producing gas, which builds pressure in a sealed container (can pop the cap, bulge the bottle, or clog the nozzle with residue). Peroxide also breaks down within hours once mixed regardless of container — this isn't a make-ahead/stockpile solution either way. If a spray format is genuinely useful: put only peroxide + dish soap in the bottle (skip the baking soda there), keep it out of direct light, use within a day. Sprinkle baking soda directly on the stain first, then spray the peroxide/soap mix over it — same effect, no sealed-container gas buildup.
