Removed 2 more cups brine, replaced with plain water. Total brine replaced: 4 cups (07/07) + 2.5 cups (07/09) + 2 cups (07/15) = 8.5 cups total. Salt level now acceptable — tastes good. White powdery coating developing on surface and on pickles = kahm yeast (harmless). Skimmed off top. Continuing ferment.
